Oak Flats Park – HDR shot – Wollongong Photographer

One of my newest shots taken just yesterday. The frustrating thing about HDR is the anticipation of what the final result looks like. For those of you who don’t know what HDR is, it stands for High Dynamic Range. Basically you merge typically 3 or more (5,7 or even 9) images into one photograph at multiple exposures to capture all the detail in both the shadows and highlights. For example, for this image I took a standard exposure shot, another shot 2 stops lighter (to overexpose the highlights in order to capture the detail in the shadows) and a shot 2 stops darker (to expose for the highlight detail.) It all comes down to how much detail you want in your photograph. By taking 3 shots at different exposures you are able to fit it all that detail you weren’t able to capture in just one shot. Without confusing you, I took out my tripod (to avoid camera shake) then set my camera to AEB (auto exposure bracketing). This AEB feature allowed the camera to take the 3 shots in a row at different exposures. On top of this I set my camera to burst mode (allowing hardly any ‘ghosting’ of the trees) and allowing hardly any movement between shots. I shot away and I took about 5 sets of shots for this one scene ..this was my favourite. There just happen to be a family on the swings which I think added a special something to the shot. Although I do think the ghosting effect of the girl on the swing works.
